SIGGIS was founded on the 18th of August, 2008 by Henri Van Oosterwyck and Lieven Verheust. In the months following the founding, several former co-workers were hired in addition to new experts. By the end of 2008 the company comprised over 30 GIS and IT expert. On the one hand, SIGGIS means “SIG-GIS” (Système d’Information Géographique – Geografisch Informatie Systeem; i.e. The French and Dutch translations of GIS pasted together) but on the other hand, it primarily means “Spatial Intelligence Genuine & Generic IT Solutions”. This official name is a reflection of the company vision that GIS should be integrated as a fully fledged component of an IT architecture and business model.
Like time, geography is an intrinsic dimension connected to every type of information. By fully integrating these dimensions into an information system, one can work more efficiently and reach better conclusions faster. SIGGIS maintains as its vision, to use spatial intelligence to make your way of working better and more efficient in the long term.
