ArcGIS 9.4 becomes ArcGIS 10

The new release of ArcGIS is not going to be ArcGIS 9.4 but ArcGIS 10. This was announced yesterday by Jack Dangermond, director and founder of ESRI Inc.

"We have worked for 3 years on this and it has become a major release. Much larger than the releases of ArcGIS 9.x, until now", says Dangermond. Initially it was planned to release the new version under the name ArcGIS 9.4.

The main reason to make it ArcGIS 10 according to Jack Dangermond, was the feedback from the beta-testers. They felt that the amount and nature of the changes were so huge that a 9.x release was no longer on the agenda.

ArcGIS 10 is scheduled to be released in the 2nd quarter of 2010, around the User Conference in San Diego. Particularly for desktop and server users a lot of changes are there in ArcGIS 10.
